WORLD's TIGER CAPITAL - NAGPUR

Nagpur is all set to became World's Tiger Capital and gateway to the tiger land as Maharashtra and Gujarat have the highest tiger population (in the country). A tour organized by the Maharashtra government , Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavhan visited the state & said “States like Gujarat and Kerala are already promoting their assets… in order to stay in competition we will now promote what we have in abundance” As per the 2010 census Nagpur is the highest scorer in the country with total Tiger population of 148. As a state Maharashtra holds highest share of population in the country which has rise from 103 to 169 in last four years.

The city has three Tiger Reserves (Tadoba, Melghat,Pench) and more than five sanctuaries (Sahadyri,Sindhudurg, Nagjira,Navegaon and Bor)  as per "A K Khetrapal", Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife).
As per 2010 sensus  Population of Tigers at Tadoba is 69 at Melghat its 35, Sahadyri -- Sindhudurg has 21 tigers, Nagjira-Navegaon -- 20 tigers and Bor -- 12 tigers.
Activities of the Maharashtra government have begun to gain more visitors and have gears up to promote the state on India’s tourist map.
The painting of the Maharajbagh Zoo wall was another activity that we undertook as part of an awareness drive. Though the intention was only to express the demand, it became a canvas for everything related to wildlife — protecting the tiger and saving our forests.
